For decades, women have made their entrances at high-society events on Market dressed in elegant and eye-catching fashions found at Morgan’s of Delaware. Go to any gala at the Grand, any wedding at the Hotel du Pont, and you’ll find someone styled by Martha Morgan. Now she’s on Market too, with a new location her eponymous shop. On the eve of the fall gala season, we checked in to see how the move has gone:

“You come to us for the Morgan's experience, that Morgan's red carpet moment. We're known for suggesting that you try on something that might be a little out of the box for you, but are still within your comfort zone and your lifestyle, taking your age, your height and your attitude into consideration. There are women who are understated, classic with an edge, and then those who want a dress that says ‘look at me,’ and some who are looking for ‘all eyes on me.’ That hasn't changed over the years. That Morgan's moment is about inspiring and empowering women to look great and feel fabulous.”

“We do cute casual, chic cocktail and glamorous gowns. The focus of our season is going to be glitz and glamour – glamour is old Hollywood, and glitz is elegant with an edge.”

“This line from Clara Sunwoo has been featured on the Today Show and is worn frequently by Kathie Lee Gifford and Hoda Kotb. That's the liquid leather jacket that's washable. The necklace makes a statement, picking up the blue and the gold from the jacket. We're collaborating Dell Scott and her business, Divacoutoure. Her jewelry has the glamour effect that we're promoting all season. Her company's mission to see women empowered to unleash their ‘Inner Diva’ through the art of exquisite fashion.”

“With the dress, that color is called ‘sangria.’ It's from Scala USA, an all-over sequin gown. That one could go to a black tie event, a prom to any fundraiser, but it is an ‘all eyes on me’ dress, and low cut in the back. That's not one of the more conservative dresses.”

“Many girls are already starting to look at what they want to wear for prom next April. That dress search starts Sept. 1. They're looking for homecomings, eighth-grade formals, winter balls, junior proms, senior proms, and pageants. And the proactive moms are looking for sales, at dresses from 2017 that will still be fashionable in 2018.”

“We also do fashion emergencies. One of the cutest ones, these two young women came in, and I asked them if they were on a mission. The one responded yes, her friend had come in from Texas for a wedding that they were going to that night and that when her friend showed her the dress she planned on wearing, she said it would NOT pass the grandmother test. That was an emergency. So they Googled us, and we were able to find an elegant-with-an-edge dress that fit her age.”

“We're still new to Market Street. People are still finding us. We have people who come early for personal shopping before the store opens, we have people who come in during lunch, and then an after five. We're also one of the several stores now open seven days a week.”

(Go check out the store, and if you see something you like and mention this article, Martha tells us you’ll get 20% off any purchase of $100 or more – sales merchandise excluded – in October.)
